McLaren drive Lando Norris speaks to the media in Austria.

Lando Norris has stood up for a journalist in the paddock at the Austrian Grand Prix while answering questions ahead of the weekend.

While speaking in the TV pen to respected reporter Mariana Becker, who works for Brazilian TV, a clip has emerged on social media of their interview in which she asked him about McLaren’s wholesale upgrades this weekend.

With only one practice session before the cars go into parc fermé conditions for qualifying and it being a sprint weekend, Becker asked Norris how he would be able to prioritise working on the car’s upgrades and whether or not they can be found to be a “game-changer” in such a short space of time.

Lando Norris calls out rude journalist

Norris responded to Becker by saying: “Good question… you ask the best questions here, well done.”

At which point, another journalist assembled around the pen interjected and said to Norris: “You are such a liar.”

This sparked an incredulous reaction from both Becker and the McLaren driver, with Norris responding and quipping: “I’m not. Who are you?

“No, I’m telling the truth.”

McLaren looking to make the most of fast-tracked upgrades

McLaren are bringing a significant amount of upgrades with them to Austria this weekend, with enough being available to place on Norris’ car before being added to team-mate Oscar Piastri at Silverstone next time.

Team principal Andrea Stella said the sheer amount of changes to the car will effectively make the MCL60 a ‘B-spec’ car when the upgrades are fully fitted, and so big are the changes they are being spread out over the course of several race weekends.
